SHORT DESCRIPTION: The building known as “Casa delle Conoscenze” (“House of Knowledge”) houses the Shift Dairy Museum and the Archeopoint created by the municipality of Tramonti di Sotto in collaboration with the Superintendence for the Archaeological Heritage and the Archaeological Museum of Pordenone. The house offers a journey through the archaeological discoveries in this Friulian mountain valley.
The highlight of the exhibition is the necropolis that existed here in the early Middle Ages, discovered in 1990 during an excavation near the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Tramonti di Sotto. A dozen Longobard tombs were found, which helped to shed light on some aspects of the early populations of the Val Tramontina. Inside the house there is a 1:1 replica of one of these tombs (the original is kept in the Archaeological Museum of Pordenone in Torre), as well as replicas made by Sergio Salvador of some burial objects from other tombs. In the showcases there are some reconstructions of vases and pots from the same period.
